361 elephants died in Sri Lanka in 2019
361 elephants have died in Sri Lanka in 2019 which is the highest report of elephants death since their independence in 1948.
Most of the elephants were killed by people as the animals often come into conflict with rural communities. Communities uses electric fences, poison and explosives concealed as food to kill the animals.
Inorder to solve this problem, officials have promised to work to resolve the conflict by putting fences between elephant habitats and rural communities.
