Message from Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan CIty- Chiri Babu Maharjan:
Lalitpur city is restoring the resilient and resource-efficient forms of urbanism on the basis of its history and local knowledge, to establish neighborhoods that prioritize people and nature, with the goal of becoming a clean, green, and sustainable city"
Building on the key messages and strategies of UNEP’s Integrated Guidelines for Sustainable Neighborhood Design.
“In line with this goal, we have already built 5.25 km of bicycle lanes to link the northern and southern parts of the city, and we have installed bicycle stands in the historic Patan Durbar Square, and other public spaces in the city. Thanks to this, the air pollution in the city center has greatly improved and with that the health and well-being of our citizens.”
The city aims to extend the cycle lane to the border area of Godawari Municipality and Mahalaxmi Municipality targeting the citizens of Kathmandu valley. Our Municipal board is working on the Bicycle Act -2077 having user friendly green cities in LMC. Once the act is endorsed, we will have legal ground to explore further possibilities for better environment and quality life of people.
