At least 71 people dead after flash floods and landslides in Indonesia and East Timor
At least 71 people have died after flash floods and landslides hit Indonesia and East Timor. More than 40 people are still missing and the death toll could rise further.
Torrential heavy rains led to flash flood which affected Flores island in eastern Indonesia to East Timor. Landslides and flash floods are not uncommon across the Indonesian archipelago during the rainy season.
According to the official of Indonesian Disaster Mitigation Agency, the mud and the extreme weather have become a serious challenge and the debris piling up has hampered the search and rescue team.
